The Company;

Association of Avian Veterinarians, Australasian Committee

AAVAC is a Not-For-Profit independent association of avian veterinarians in Australia and New Zealand, linked to the Association of Avian Veterinarians in America (AAV). At a meeting of veterinarians interested in Caged and Aviary Bird Medicine and Surgery held on 30 April 1989, it was decided to  form an Australian Avian Veterinary Association, and to investigate affiliation with AAV.

 

In January 1990, the ‘Association of Avian Veterinarians, Australian Committee’ was formed. In 2008, the name was changed to ‘AAV Australasian Committee’, to incorporate New Zealand, and in October 2013 to  AAVAC Ltd. Members include veterinarians from private practice, government, zoos, universities, and industry, as well as veterinary undergraduates.

Mission

Mission Statement: AAVAC is an international professional organization of veterinary practitioners advancing and promoting avian medicine, stewardship, and conservation through education of its members, the veterinary community and those they serve.

 

Slogan: “Advancing and Promoting Avian Medicine and Stewardship.”

 

Purpose: Education of veterinary practitioners with an interest in avian medicine, and of bird owners in the care of their charges.

Objectives

  • Through teaching and research, the education of the veterinary community to increase their knowledge and skills in avian medicine, surgery and welfare;
  • In public relations, to educate bird owners in the responsible care of their charges, and to encourage pet bird companionship via captive-bred  birds;
  • The preservation of avian species and their natural habitats;
  • To undertake and pursue all such other similar, related or compatible objectives as may from time to time be considered appropriate by AAVAC;
  • and AAVAC has the resources, recognition, integrity and prestige to accomplish its  mission and objectives.

The Company

The Board is appointed by member vote, and the Directors choose the chairperson. The Board is responsible for management of the AAVAC as stated in the constitution, section 12, as this applies to all AAVAC activities aimed at meeting the company’s goal of promoting and advancing avian medicine and stewardship.
