Lauren Powers DVM, DABVP (Avian, ECM)
Dr. Powers has been Service Head of the Avian and Exotic Pet Service at Carolina Veterinary Specialists since 2002.
She graduated with Honours from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1994 and completed a residency in Non-domestic Avian Medicine and Surgery at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine (NCSU-CVM) (1995-1997).
She is Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at NCSU-CVM (from 2008), and is Board-Certified in both Avian Medicine (ABVP-Avian Practice - since 1997) and Exotic Companion Mammal Medicine (ABVP-Exotic Companion Mammal Practice - since 2012). She was the 2011 and 2012 recipient of the AAV President’s Award for Outstanding Service and the 2008 recipient of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians (AEMV) President’s Award. She currently serves as President of AAV.
Dr. Powers has written more than twenty scientific journal articles and book chapters. She has presented on pharmacology and pharmacodynamics, antimicrobial therapy, poultry, haemoparasites, fluid therapy, atherosclerosis, compounding medications, reproductive tract disorders, analgesia, ophthalmology. Her areas of special interest are avian and exotic critical care, emergency medicine and neurologic diseases.
